For background information, please read The Playground Files.

This list of South Island Fenced Playgrounds is organised alphabetically by local council,  and then alphabetically by playground name/location. Christchurch Fenced Playgrounds are not included, as they’re listed on their own page. Where possible, I have included comments from the parent or parents who nominated the playground.

I have no photos of these playgrounds! If you have any photos of the playgrounds mentioned below and would be happy for me to use them, please send them to me. And please contact me if I have missed a Fenced Playground, or if you feel that the information below is inaccurate in any way.

Please note that this list only includes playgrounds that are free, and open to the public. It does not include playgrounds provided to customers of cafes or restaurants.

Parent’s comment: “Outdoor fully fenced playground by the Plunket Rooms. Available any time, and really good!”

Waimakariri District Council

Oakwood Park playground

Oakwood Drive, Rangiora

Date added: 22/01/17

Parent’s comment: “Has a fenced section for young kids which has swings, slide, sandpit and other age appropriate things. Also has more equipment like balance boards, swings and a climbing frame for older kids plus a massive field with rugby posts. My go to park with my 5 kids as there is something for everyone.”
